New Newcastle United owners are planning a January move for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr according to a report by The Dailymail

The club, who are attempting to build a squad capable of challenging the Premier League’s strongest teams, have identified the Senegalese as an early transfer target.

Since joining Watford from Rennes in the summer of 2019 for a reported £40m deal, Sarr has caught the eye of many Premier League sides.

According to Sportsmail, Newcastle wants to make him one of their very first signings under the Saudi owners but faces resistance from Watford, who are unwilling to sell this January.

The Hornets see the 23-year-old as one of the top talents in the division and are keen to keep him at least until the summer. Although the winger is a different player from Jack Grealish, his club believes he has the potential to reach a similar level and can ultimately command the same transfer fee as the former Aston Villa man.

Following their takeover by the Saudi backed Public Investment Fund, Newcastle have become one of the world’s wealthiest clubs. They reportedly have money to spend for any calibre of player but are keen to bring players with Premier League experience.

Although they are still seeking a permanent manager and technical staff, they have made Sarr an early part of their thinking.

In 31 Premier League starts for Watford, Sarr has nine goals and four assists.

Speaking about his qualities, Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster said;

“He is frightening. How fast this guy is. I’ve never seen anything like it. His acceleration is phenomenal.

“Not only is he rapid, getting down the wing and putting the ball into the box, but now he’s scoring goals as well.”
