Sir Alex Ferguson gives his take on the Ronaldo vs Messi debate

Giggs Only four escaped Ferguson’s ‘hairdryer treatment’ at United

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has given his thoughts on the Cristiano Ronaldo versus Lionel Messi debate.

The two players are arguably the best of their generation, and there have been numerous comparisons between them over the last decade.

But Ferguson has worked with Cristiano Ronaldo closely at Manchester United, and he believes that the Portuguese superstar is more flexible and he could succeed with a lot of different clubs.

The former Manchester United claimed that Ronaldo has the quality to shine for small clubs like Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster Rovers and scored hat-tricks for them.

There is no doubt that Christian Ronaldo is a better goal scorer than Lionel Messi however it would be fair to state that the Argentine is a superior all-around player.

That said, it would be unfair to compare both players who have very different skill sets and who have proven themselves at the highest level by winning almost every trophy at the club level.

Messi has struggled to win silverware with his country, but Cristiano Ronaldo helped Portugal win significant tournaments like the Euros and the Nations League.

“People say who is the best player in the world? And plenty of people quite rightly say Messi – you can’t dispute that opinion,” explained Ferguson.

“But Ronaldo could play for Millwall, Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster Rovers… anyone, and score a hat-trick in a game. I’m not sure Messi could do it.

“Ronaldo’s got two feet; he’s quick, great in the air, he’s brave – Messi’s brave, of course. I think Messi’s a Barcelona player.”
