Gundogan, Torres score, as Manchester City register 2-0 win over Newcastle

Manchester City picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League earlier tonight.

German international Ilkay Gundogan and Spanish forward Ferran Torres scored either side of halftime to secure the three points for Pep Guardiola’s team.

Manchester City took the lead 14 minutes into the game when Gundogan turned in a cut back from Raheem Sterling.

Manchester City had the opportunity to double their advantage at the stroke of half time but Newcastle United keeper Karl Darlow produced an excellent stop from Kevin de Bruyne.

The visitors had their first chance of the game early on in the second half when Ederson denied Jacob Murphy.
Manchester City doubled their advantage on the 55th minute when Ferran Torres slotted past the Newcastle United keeper after a deflection in the box.

The home side could have scored the third goal of the game but Sergio Aguero had a goal cleared off the line late on.

Tonight’s win takes Manchester City up to 26 points in the Premier League table and they are now fifth in the standings.

Meanwhile Newcastle United are 12th with 18 points.

Pep Guardiola will be delighted with his team’s dominant performance against Newcastle United and this was their 12th consecutive home win over the Magpies.
