Southampton

Southampton will look to make it three wins in three competitive games for the first time since February when they welcome Manchester United to Saint Mary’s Stadium this Saturday.

The host won their first league game of the season last weekend as they came from a goal down to beat Leicester City 2-1. The win ended a run of eight league games without a win, stretching back to last season (D2, L6).

The win which came after a credible 2-2 draw with Leeds United in Game-week two has bought some time for troubled Saints boss Ralph Hassenhuttle. The Austrian coach has been under pressure due to his side’s poor form since last season but will be pleased with his side’s response so far. After the win over Leicester, he praised his side’s ‘fantastic’ reaction to falling behind in that clash.

He will now be looking to record back-to-back league wins and perhaps keep his side’s first clean sheet in nine PL matches. Having seen his side keep a rare clean sheet in their 3-0 win over Cambridge United on Wednesday in the EFL Cup, he will be buoyed and will fancy their chances of recording a shut-out against the Red Devils who have struggled to score on their recent road trips.

Possible Southampton starting line-up

Manchester United

Manchester United finally ended a run of four league defeats on Monday as they beat old foes Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford.

On a night that saw more demonstrations about the club’s ownership as well as the unveiling of new signing Casemiro, goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford gave Erik ten Hag’s side the win and ensured that the former Ajax man became the first ever United manager to secure his debut win for the club against Liverpool.

The Dutchman spoke of his admiration for his team’s attitude at full-time after the game against Liverpool. He will now hope that his side can produce the same sort of spirit as they look to end a run of seven Premier League defeats on the road.

That record is their worst losing away league run since way back in 1936. But given that they have a sound record at St Mary’s, they will consider that this is the best place to end their losing run. The last time the Red Devils lost on this ground was way back in 2003, and since then they have won nine times here (D5).

Possible Manchester United starting line-up

David de Gea; Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia; Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho; Marcus Rashford; Cristiano Ronaldo.

Injured: Victor Lindelof, Brandon Williams

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
