Tottenham Update: Mourinho admits Kane reliance, Ndombele on Jose mind games

Jose Mourinho in Press Conference before Manchester United match

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has lavished praise on Harry Kane after his impressive performance against West Brom in the Premier League earlier today.

The Spurs manager admitted a certain degree of dependency on the England international.

Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and it is natural for his team to rely on him. However, the London club must look to bring in proper backup options to fill in for him when he is injured.

Tottenham have been overly reliant on him for goals for far too long.

Mourinho has tipped the England international to break every possible record at Tottenham. Kane is currently the second all-time goal scorer on the club’s list and he has the potential to surpass the great Jimmy Greaves who is the London club’s record goalscorer of all time.

Jose said: “He is a special player in the history of the club and will beat every possible record. He is one of the best strikers in the world. There is nothing else you say. The team depends a lot on him. I cannot hide that. It’s the goal he can score, it’s the assist he can make, he is the link player that he is. He has that personality that the top players have and he is always a very important influence for us.”

Ndombele hails Mourinho’s tough love

Meanwhile midfielder Tanguy Ndombele as revealed that Jose Mourinho’s mind games helped turn around his fortunes at the London club.

The Frenchman struggled to fit in at the London club last season and he was expected to leave at the start of this season. However, he ended up staying and he has now established himself as a key player under Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager tends to play mind games with the opposition as well as his own players to get the best out of them and it seems that Mourinho’s trick has managed to unlock Ndombele’s potential.

His tough love has motivated Ndombele to work harder and adapt to life in the Premier League.

The midfielder said: “Sometimes the words can be too hard. Or too harsh. For me, it created a war in my head. It was difficult to take. It was not enjoyable, but it was not unmerited criticism.

“Well, you can either try to blame others for any slips or errors, or try to laugh about it or brush it off. But you will always go on to reflect properly on what has been said, and take criticism on board.

“I can’t go in to the details [on what was said with the manager] but it is all good. We can talk openly, have a laugh together, sit down for a meal, no problems.”

Tanguy Ndombele on Mourinho: “I think that Mourinho has shown that he can make me a top Premier League player. Between last year's Tanguy and this year's Tanguy I think there is a difference "
