Manchester United have taken another hit in the Premier League title race as they were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom dwellers West Brom.

United were desperate for a win before the game as they had to catch up rivals Manchester City in the Premier League title race but West Brom had other plans for the visitors.

The home side took a shock lead inside two minutes through Mbaye Diagne, who fought off Victor Lindelof to score a header.

Bruno Fernandes levelled for the Red Devils at the stroke of the half time, scoring a stunning Volley from Luke Shaw’s cross. The Portuguese once again stepped up when his side needed him the most and the goal marked his 14th of the season.

The second half saw United not pushing for the winner bar the one instance, when they awarded a penalty before it was chalked off by VAR, who found Harry Maguire guilty of going down to the ground easily.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have moved to second in the Premier League table for the time being, their chances to have a shot at the title are looking bleak as they trail leaders Man City, who have been undefeated in their last 16 games, by seven points.

Harry Maguire offered his thoughts on the draw.

“Of course we are [still in the title race]. “We have to go again and win the next one and then the next one.

“We created a lot of chances — enough to win the game.

“It was tough for ourselves with the goal we conceded, for us, it was a foul.

“We played the game in their half. We can do more and improve but it’s disappointing. It was a tough job against a team that defends deep.”
