PSG 3-0 Lille: Mbappe brace sends PSG to the French Cup quarter-final

Icardi and Mbape scored while Lille missed a penalty

PSG advanced to the quarter-final of the French Cup on Wednesday with a brace from Kylian Mbape and an early goal by Mauro Icardi enough to book a place in the next round at the expense of their fierce rivals Lille.

The hosts trail Lille in the domestic league by three points but were able to show their superior quality on the night as they seek to reach another French Cup final this season.

After a frustrating loss to Nantes in the league over the weekend, Mauricio Pochettino’s side did not waste to get the proceedings going in this encounter as they opened the scoring within the first nine minutes of the game. Argentine striker Icardi bundled home from close range to open the scoring after the ball fell kindly to him in the box.

Mbape then doubled PSG’s lead from the penalty spot just before the break.

The visitors who had missed their fair share of chances in the first half had the opportunity to claw back a goal through the penalty spot after Layvin Kurzawa handled in the box for PSG. But Yusuf Yazici could not beat Kaylor Navas from the penalty spot.

And with the clock winding down, Kylian Mbape added his second for the night and PSG’s third with a well-taken goal from the edge of the box.
