PSG 0-1 Bayern: Despite Choupo-Moting strike, PSG progress to the semi-finals on away goals

Neymar-Paris Saint-Germain

Eric Choupo-Moting’s strike proved insufficient as PSG beat the defending champions on away goals rule to qualify for the semi-finals.

Bayern Munich won the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against PSG 1-0 (aggregate 3 -3)however the latter progressed to the next round on away goals.

It was a frantic first half especially from PSG, who had a plethora of chances to go at the goal.

However, none of them was effective, with Neymar being denied by the woodwork on a couple of occasions.

Bayern entered the fray right before half-time when Eric Choupo-Moting found the nets on the rebound after Keylor Navas parried away David Alaba’s shot.

The second half followed a similar storyline with PSG looking more dangerous on the counter but all their efforts were futile in the final third.

Perhaps, PSG were living dangerously in the final quarter as they knew that a goal by Bayern can throw them out of the competition.

Much to Les Parisiens’ fortune, Bayern, despite looking desperate for that game-changing goal, were ineffective in the final third and they got eliminated in the end.

PSG must have to thank themselves for the emphatic 3-2 in the first leg, which really had a big say on the tie.

Hansi Flick’s men would be disappointed to see their title defence getting ended in the hands of the team whom they managed to beat in the last season’s final.

Elsewhere, Mauricio Pochettino couldn’t have asked for such a debut season at Parc Des Princes as the Argentine manager has led his side to the final four of the competition.
