Inter 5–2 Benevento: Lukaku, Hakimi on full display as Conte’s men run riot

Lukaku-Vidal-Inter Milan-Serie A

Inter have thrashed newly-promoted Benevento in Serie A’s midweek fixture.

Inter Milan have come out on top after defeating Benevento 5-2 in away game.

Romelu Lukaku scored the opener even before the turn of the minute, with Achraf Hakimi assisting the goal. The goal perhaps came as a result of an impressive sequence starting from Kolorov’s cross-field ball, which found Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez then teed up with Hakimi who eventually found Lukaku.

Roberto Gagliardini scored the second goal before Lukaku tripled the lead around the half-hour mark.

The hosts showed little ambition as Gianluca Caprari opened the account on their behalf before Inter came up with another goal at the brink of the half-time whistle; this time the scorer is Hakimi. The Moroccan wing-back has been off to a flying start in the Italian top-flight, coming up with goods in back-to-back games.

The second half saw Filippo Inzaghi’s side enjoy bouts of possession and liveliness as Moncini came close to score a goal before the shot got deflected by the post.

Once again, Inter broke the shackles as super-sub Lautaro Martinez found the nest with a quarter remaining in the clock. Benevento soon responded with their second goal, with Caprari completing his brace. They also had another chance to keep the game alive, only for Lapadula to miss a one-on-one opportunity with Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

Ivan Perisic also had a chance to keep the scoreboard ticking, but he messed up it with a poor attempt.

Following a gripping game against Fiorentina, Antonio Conte has now led his side to another huge win.

Meanwhile, Filippo Inzaghi could be happy with his side’s performance in the second half and would take the defeat as a wakeup call.
