Mourinho’s tactical battle against Lampard and his feelings on Eriksen’s return

Mourinho during United vs Spurs match

Tottenham and Chelsea played out a draw in the Premier League over the weekend and former player Glenn Hoddle believes that Jose Mourinho managed to win his tactical battle with Frank Lampard.

Hoddle claims that Chelsea found it difficult to breakdown the Tottenham defence and Mourinho got what he wanted in the end.

According to him, Tottenham knew that they needed a point to get back to the top of the table and that is exactly what Jose Mourinho wanted out of this game.

He also claimed that Chelsea have impressive attacking players at their disposal and they could have caused a lot of damage with space in the game. Therefore Jose Mourinho decided to try out a reactionary tactic and condense the space so that the Chelsea attackers are not able to express themselves freely.

Hoddle said: “Chelsea found it very hard to break Tottenham down. Spurs in the first half looked as though they could break and score. Second half, there was hardly an attack from Tottenham, they were poor with the ball, but they will take it because that’s what Jose wants to do. He knew that he goes top of the league with a point, that’s what it’s about. The next game for Spurs, it will be different, there will be a different theme to how he sets the team out. That was because Chelsea are so free-flowing and if you give them a lot of space, they will tear you apart. Jose, tactically, got it right.”

Tottenham have made a very impressive start to the Premier League this year and it will be interesting to see it Jose Mourinho and guide them to the Premier League title after several years.

The London club have signed some quality players during the summer transfer window and they have what it takes to go all the way this year.

Jose Mourinho has a record of achieving important trophies in his second season with clubs and he will be hoping to extend that track record by winning a trophy with Tottenham this season.

Meanwhile former midfielder Christian Eriksen has been linked with a move back to the London club but Jose Mourinho is not keen on bringing in back.

Apparently Jose Mourinho has already communicated his feelings to the club hierarchy that he does not want the Danish midfielder back at the club as he would not fit his tactical setup anymore.

Christian Eriksen has struggled to hold down a starting berth at Inter Milan and the Italian outfit are now looking to cut their losses on him.

Tottenham have several options in the attacking midfield and their decision to turn down the chance to sign Eriksen makes complete sense.
