Juventus 1-1 Verona: Late Kulusevski goal saves Juventus blushes

Andrea Pirlo-Juventus

The defending champions have been held to a draw by resolute Verona.

Juventus have shared points with Verona after the 1-1 draw at Allianz Stadium.

Both the sides had their goals cancelled by VAR due to offside in the opening half of the game. The hosts, in particular, were unlucky to have not taken the lead as Federico Bernardeschi missed out on a one vs one with goalkeeper Marco Silvestri and Juan Cuadrado’s shot rattled the crossbar.

Verona broke the deadlock shockingly at the hour mark, with Andrea Favilli finding the score sheet. The visitors caught Juventus out on one of the several counter-attacks and Mattia Zaccagni picked out Favilli in front of the goal.

The Bianconeri pushed hard for the equalizer and like in the first half they were a bit unfortunate in the attacking third. But it was until the introduction of Dejan Kulusevski from the bench as the Swede went on to put his side on level terms in the 77th minute. Kulusevski scored a brilliant solo goal, after being picked out by Alvaro Morata, taking on several Verona players before slotting the ball past Silvestri.

Nonetheless, Silvestri had a great night between the sticks as Juventus found it hard to beat him, bar Kulusevski’s goal. The Italian made a couple of brilliant saves in injury time when Juve went all out for the winning goal and he was pivotal in Verona picking up a draw.

Andrea Pirlo has now dropped points for the third time in Serie A this season, not the ideal start for the former Italian midfielder in his debut managerial campaign.
