Granada 2-0 Napoli: Chelsea loanee Kennedy, Herrera on target as Granada ease past Gattuso’s men

Napoli suffered a disappointing defeat in the first leg of Europa League’s round of 32 clash.

Granada registered a 2-0 win against Napoli in the round of 32 first leg as the La Liga outfit took a big step towards the last 16.

The Spaniards’ intentions were manifest from the off and it soon resulted in a goal, with their star midfielder Yangel Herrera heading the ball into the nets after a brilliant cross from Kennedy.

Kennedy, who set up Granada’s first goal, soon found the scoresheet after a brilliant left-footed strike

minutes later. Napoli were left stunned after back to back goals in no time.

The Neapolitans enjoyed more possession for the larger parts of the game but to little or no effect as they registered only one shot on target.

Granada were happy to sit back in their own half and try to catch them off guard in counter-attacks.

Napoli skipper Lorenzo Insigne had a rather gruesome night as he couldn’t help his side from sinking. The Italian has arguably been their best player of the season but not for tonight.

Victor Osimhen also had a dismal performance as he couldn’t be of service to the Partenopei and the Nigerian’s troubles in his debut season in Italy doesn’t look to cease at the moment.

Napoli failed to build on the big win against Juventus in the weekend and the fluctuation in the form has been their story so far this season.

Gennaro Gattuso offered his thoughts on the game and rather than thinking about the comeback, the Italian manager wants to get rid of the injury problems.

“We need to be more precise. We created chances and certainly deserved more. There’s no point talking about qualification or not now, as the priority is to get players back,” Gattuso said.

“We just lost Matteo Politano as well, so what’s the point of qualifying for the next round if we don’t have anyone who can play? All we can do tomorrow is count who is left and then see.”
