Manchester United player ratings vs Roma: Cavani and Fernandes the star of the show

Anytime Football rated the performance of Manchester United players against Roma in the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League. Cavani and Fernandes were the stars of the show.

Manchester United Team

Manchester United roared to a 6-2 win over Roma in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals earlier tonight at Old Trafford.

The Premier League giants had a tough time in the first half, but they did well to eventually turn things around and claim a massive win.

The Red Devils have one foot in the Europa League finals, and they will be firm favourites to go on and clinch the European crown this season.

There were quite a few exceptional performances from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side that helped initiate the memorable comeback, and here are the player ratings from tonight’s contest.

David De Gea – 6

The Spaniard is simply not the goalkeeper he used to be. His positioning was suspect for Edin Dzeko’s goal, and he did little to prevent the penalty.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5

The right-back was signed because of his defensive abilities, but he failed to showcase his strengths tonight. Wan-Bissaka has always been mediocre going forward, but his defensive skills have kept him in the starting line-up.

However, his poor positioning led to Roma’s second goal tonight.

Harry Maguire – 6

Could have done better to cover his near post and deny Dzeko. Other than that, the world’s most expensive defender did the basics well.

Victor Lindelof – 6

Similar to his partner, Lindelof could have done better to prevent Roma’s goals but did the basics well.

Luke Shaw – 8

Despite the initial struggles at the start of the game, Shaw grew into the contest, and he was magnificent going forward. The left-back helped create quite a few chances down the left flank.

Scott McTominay – 6

Reasonably solid throughout the game and did well to break up the play and recycle possession for his side.

Fred – 5

The Brazilian gave the ball away that led to the penalty, and failed to stop Mkhitaryan’s defence-splitting pass.

Marcus Rashford – 5

Struggled to get into the game from a wide position, and he never really managed to trouble the Roma defence despite United dominating the contest in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes – 9

The Portuguese midfielder has been in unplayable form since moving to Old Trafford, and he continues to deliver the goods.

He scored twice and created two other goals for his side.

Paul Pogba – 9

He dominated the midfield for Manchester United and managed to get on the score sheet as well.

The Frenchman is back to his best, and he will be vital to the club’s quest for trophies this season and beyond.

Edinson Cavani – 10

He delivered a flawless performance with two goals and two assists. The Uruguayan was excellent with his link-up play and chance creation as well. Undoubtedly the best player on the pitch.

Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Mason Greenwood came as substitutes, but they are not rated here. Mason Greenwood scored the last goal for home side.
