UEFA Nations League Griezmann, Giroud on target in six-goal 'France vs Croatia' thriller

France edge out Croatia in 4-2 win in Nations League.

France went head to head with Croatia in what looked like a replay of the 2018 world Cup final.

Again, Didier Deschamps’ man emerged victorious, beating the Croats 4-2.

Croatia took the lead with the help of Dejan Lovren’s goal before Antoine Griezmann cancelled it out right before the half-time. Anthony Martial scored the second goal of the game after a great link-up play with Griezmann and Wissam Ben Yedder, who provided the assist.

However, Les Bleus soon gave up the lead as Croatia’s Josip Brekalo levelled the terms in the 55th minute. The Wolfsburg prospect took advantage of a shaky defence to score the maiden goal of his international career.

Dayot Upamecano soon put France ahead with a brilliantly timed header from Griezmann’s corner kick. Oliver Giroud, who came in for Ben Yedder, scored the fourth goal of the game from the spot.

The match also marked the debut of Eduardo Camavinga, who came in as a substitute in the second half for N’Golo Kante. The 17-year-old soon caught the eyes of everyone with his breathtaking skills.

Griezmann had a good outing after an uninspiring display against Sweden in the previous fixture. The Barcelona man concluded a gruesome season last term and this performance could provide him with enough boost.

Martial started the game in the absence of Kylian Mbappe and he perhaps fared well. The Manchester United striker registered the first goal of his international career.

Croatia’s performance has left a lot to be desired as they pick up another defeat in the Nations League.
