UEFA Nations League Batshuayi, teenager Doku stars in Belgium's 5-1 win against Iceland

The Chelsea striker scored a double to inspire the Red Devils to victory.

Belgium hosted Iceland in the matchday of the UEFA Nations League.

The visitors took a surprise lead inside the opening ten minutes, only to be cancelled by Axel Witsel sooner.

Michi Batshuayi scored a double while Dries Mertens and the teenager Jeremy Doku found the score sheet in the 5-1 win.

Doku has impressed on his full debut with the Red Devils and he is perhaps a player for the future. The 18-year-old had impressed with Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro League last season. Doku came in as a substitute against Denmark in the previous fixture.

Yari Verschaeren was also productive in his limited minutes as a substitute, setting up Batshuayi’s second goal. The 19-year-old is another serious talent from Anderlecht. He made his debut with the Belgium national team last year and also scored a goal in the Euro Qualifiers against San Marino.

Kevin de Bruyne continued his brilliant form last night, registering two assists to his name.

The Manchester City midfielder showed his class just hours after winning the PFA player of the year award. De Bruyne had an excellent season last term despite not winning any trophies.

Belgium also looked more comfortable without talisman Eden Hazard, who has been sidelined due to injury.

Roberto Martinez’s side, who are currently ranked number one in the world, has followed up with another brilliant display after defeating Denmark in the matchday 1.
