Spanish La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have been handed a major boost ahead of the new season as manager Diego Simeone committed his long-term future.

The Argentine manager has signed a new three-year contract to keep him at the club until the summer of 2024.

“With this contract extension, we continue our exciting project with Diego Pablo Simeone. Fantastic news for the Atleti family,” an Atletico statement read on Thursday.

Simeone is one of the best managers in the world, and his decision to continue at the Spanish club will undoubtedly delight the fans.

Atletico Madrid have developed into one of the best teams in world football under his management over the last decade.

Since joining the club in 2011, Simeone has managed to win eight trophies with the Spanish outfit, including a league title last season. Previously, Simeone also helped Atletico to bag La Liga title in 2013-14 season.

Atletico Madrid came close to winning the Champions League twice, and the Argentine manager will be disappointed to have ended up on the losing side both times. He will be hoping to guide his side to European glory in future.

The Spanish outfit have managed to put together a talented core despite losing several of their key players over the years.

Simeone’s management and impressive transfer record deserve a lot of credit for that.

According to the report, Simeone’s backroom staff – Oscar Ortega, Pablo Vercellone, Nelson Vivas and Hernán Bonvinvini have also signed three-year contracts with the club.
