Western Sydney Wanderers pick up their first win of the A-League this season.

Western Sydney Wanderers have picked up their first win of the season after edging out the home side Newcastle Jets 2-1.

The visitors were quick to open their account as Ziggy Gordon scored a header from the corner kick.

Nicolai Muller thought he had doubled the lead for Wanderers with a stunning strike from long before it was reversed by VAR due to offside in the build-up.

Newcastle Jets tried their best in the first half, with Connor O’Toole testing the goalkeeper Margush from halfway down the pitch.

The Wanderers keeper also made a vital save to deny a promising effort from the forward Valentino Yuel.

Western Sydney scored their second goal right before the hour mark when Simon Cox teed off Tate Russell, who found the nets eventually.

Muller was unfortunate once again to have his shot saved by Jets keeper Jack Duncan.

Jets pulled one back at the start of the final quarter skipper Nigel Boogard directed his header to the nets from a free-kick. But it wasn’t enough for the hosts as they ended up on the losing side.

Wanderers looked threatening on the counter and they rightfully deserve their first win of the season.

Jets are off to a poor start to the season, having lost their first game against Central Coast Mariners last week.
