The Colombian has opened about the opportunity to leave Bernabeu last summer.
Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has revealed that the club had intentionally passed up the opportunity to let him off the hook last summer.
James said, “If I were a bad player, I would accept it, but I’m a person who wants to win and always play.
“When you see you don’t have the same opportunities as your team-mates, it’s hard. I wanted to leave but the club wouldn’t let me.”
The Colombian also expressed his desire for more playing time, which he doesn’t see in the current Los Blancos’ side with Zidane at the helm.
James added, “I wanted to go somewhere where I would have played, as I knew that I wouldn’t have chances to do that under Zidane because he already has his base.”
The 29-year-old has become a fringe player at Santiago Bernabeu, failing to make the impact with the first-team.
James returned to the Spanish Capital after his two-year loan spell with Bayern Munich last summer. Once again, the Colombian’s chances under Zinedine Zidane went begging. James made only 8 appearances in La Liga while being out for a shorter period owing to injury.
The former AS Monaco star has been linked with a move to fellow rivals Atletico Madrid, who are looking keen on his transfer. Previously, Wolves had registered their interest in signing James while Everton looked to bring the midfielder with the help of their manager Carlo Ancelotti.
