Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is all set to agree on a contract extension with Barcelona, and the deal could be finalized before Copa America kicks off.

According to reports from AS, Lionel Messi is closing in on a two-year deal to remain at Barcelona.

The 33-year-old’s current contract expires this summer, and he has been linked with a move away from Spain in recent months.

The likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain have been tipped as potential destinations for the Barcelona star, but he seems that he’s willing to see out his career at Camp Nou.

The report further states that the agreement requires only a handful of structural details to be finalized.

Earlier this month, Barcelona president Joan Laporta claimed that talks are going well and they are progressing in terms of an extension, and it is the priority of the Spanish club to hold on to Lionel Messi beyond this summer.

Previously it has been reported that Messi is looking for an ambitious project at Barcelona, and he wants the club to put together a squad capable of winning the major trophies.

The Spanish outfit have recently confirmed the signings of Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia from Manchester City.

They are thought to be closing in on the signing soft, Georginio Wijnaldum as well.

The news of Messi’s potential extension will come as a major boost to the Barcelona fans. The 33-year-old is undoubtedly the best player of his generation, and his departure would have been a massive blow to Barcelona’s ambitions.
