Barcelona submit £8m bid for Manchester City defender Eric Garcia

The Spaniard has been a top target for the Catalan club.

Barcelona have made their first offer to sign Manchester City’s contract rebel Eric Garcia.

According to reports, Barca have made an initial bid worth £8m for Garcia, who has wished not to continue with Man City.

The Spaniards’s contract runs until next year but he has opted against a renewal.

Garcia said,

“It is true I have told the club I do not intend to extend my contract beyond 2021.

“But I will return to Manchester when I am finished on international duty with Spain, and I am focused on next season with City.”

Barca want to take advantage of the situation as they aim to bring back their former graduate to the Nou Camp.

The 19-year-old has been cited as the long-time successor to veteran Gerard Pique, whose future looks in jeopardy with Ronald Koeman’s arrival. Pique might survive for another year but the Dutch gaffer is keen on bringing in a new blood like Garcia for his project.

Barca are also exploring the option of signing Garcia on a fee transfer if the deal doesn’t get over the line this summer.

Garcia was given more opportunities towards the latter stages of the last season by Pep Guardiola. His impressive performances have helped him earn a call-up to the national team.

It is also understood Citizens would demand around 15 million euros for the sale of Garcia and Barca remains the only club interested in signing him.
