Lionel Messi is reportedly closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but Barcelona are not prepared to give up on him just yet.

According to the latest reports, the club’s CEO Ferran Reverter has made a last-ditch offer to keep the Argentine. Reverter is currently acting as a middle-man between the club and the player’s camp.

Messi recently announced his departure from Barcelona in an emotional press conference.

The 34-year-old was expected to sign a new deal with the Spanish outfit, but La Ligas salary cap made it difficult for Barcelona to complete the extension.

According to reports, Barcelona need to lower their wage bill by €150 million before registering any new signings.

Messi had an agreement in place with Barcelona regarding a new deal. He was willing to take a massive pay cut to stay at the club.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can pull off a shocking U-turn and keep the 34-year-old at the club beyond this summer.

Although it seems that it might be too late and Messi is likely to join Paris Saint Germain eventually.

Several reports have claimed in recent days that the player has an agreement in place with the French club, and he will sign a two-year contract with them.

It seems highly unlikely that Barcelona will be able to get their finances in order and complete a deal for Messi at the last minute.
