Arsenal are looking to sign the Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji this summer.
According to Fussball Transfers, the Gunners have been in touch with the highly rated defender regarding a transfer.
Akanji is highly rated in Germany and he won’t come cheap. The report claims that his suitors will have to pay around €25-30m for his services.
Arsenal wanted to sign him last summer as well but the move never materialised.
The 24-year-old is a good defender and he would be a solid addition to Arteta’s back four.
Akanji has a lot of potential and a good coach could help him develop into a star. Arsenal could be the ideal move for him.
Arteta is regarded as a talented young manager and the level of competition at Arsenal should bring out the best in the player as well.
The likes of Luiz and Sokratis are in their 30s and they will need replacing soon. Akanji could be groomed as their long term replacement.
Meanwhile, he can add depth to the defence in the short term.
It will be interesting to see if Arsenal are willing to pay the asking price for the defender.
Their finances are stretched because of the financial impact of Covid-19 and they will have to spend wisely this summer.
Spending €30m on one player might not be ideal for them.
Dortmund might have to lower their demands for the transfer to go through.
