Bayern Munich begin title defence with 8-0 demolition of Schalke

German champions Bayern Munich started their season with an 8-0 win over Schalke in the Bundesliga earlier today.

Hansi flick will be delighted with his team’s performance today and it will be interesting to see if the German giants can build on this in the coming weeks.

New signing Leroy Sane had a spectacular debut and he managed to score a goal and pick up two assists.

Meanwhile Serge Gnabry scored a hat trick for the defending champions and Robert Lewandowski got on the scoresheet as well. Lewandowski scored a goal from a penalty kick which he, himself, earned. Apart from the goal, he made two assists, one of them (for Thomas Muller) could be considered assist of the season 2020-21.

Thomas Mueller, Leon Goretzka and Musiala were the other three goal scorers for Bayern Munich today.

Schalke will be immensely disappointed with their performance today and it will be interesting to see if they can improve in the coming weeks.

The fans will have expected a lot more from their team and although they are the underdogs compared to Bayern Munich, they should have performed a lot better.

Bayern Munich will be firm favourites to retain the title once again this season and if they continue to perform at this level, the challengers will struggle to put on a proper competition.

The German side won the treble last season and they will be hoping to replicate their success from last year once again.

Bayern Munich certainly have the quality to go all the way in every competition this year and their start to the new season will have given them an immense confidence boost.
