Gladbach 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen: Schick’s late strike adds more misery to Gladbach

Leverkusen returned to the winning way after a narrow away win against Gladbach.

Bayer Leverkusen returned to winning ways after edging out Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 away, thanks to Patrik Schick, who came up with a late goal.

Leverkusen endured a tough few weeks after not picking any wins in any of their last five games. It included the Europa League exit from the hands of Young Boys, to whom they lost 6-3 on aggregate in the round of 32.

The visitors dominated the proceedings in the first half but it was Gladbach who looked more promising after the break.

However, Leverkusen were able to find the breakthrough with the help of Schick’s goal with only around fifteen minutes left in the clock. Moussa Diaby countered on the right flank before releasing his shot which was initially saved by Yan Sommer. But Schick turned the ball into the nets on the rebound.

The Czech striker has been fairly productive this season for Leverkusen, netting seven goals in the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen have also moved to fifth in the table and now they will be looking to build on this win and try for the top-four spot.

On the other hand, Gladbach are clearly going through a pitch as they have been handed with a third straight defeat in Bundesliga and they are also without a win in their last six games across all competitions.

Marco Rose‘s side are currently tenth in the table and they have a mountain to climb for the top-four spot.
