Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Stuttgart: Filip Kostic equaliser snatches draw for Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt’s top-four bid in the Bundesliga took another twist on Saturday as dropped points again in the second game running against a stubborn Stuttgart side.

The fourth-placed side had the opportunity to pull clear of the chasing pack of Leverkusen and Dortmund but failed to capitalise as they were held by an inspired Stuttgart side who are also eying a top-six finish.

Despite enjoying most of the ball and testing the opposition keeper on eight occasions, the home side could only settle for a draw while Stuttgart will be satisfied that their only shot on target in the match produced an equalising goal that will see them end the weekend in the top half of the table.

The first chance of the match fell to the home side via an Amin Younes header in the fifth minute. But the Gregor Kobel in the Stuttgart goal was alert to palm away the effort and keep his side in the game.

That first attempt proved to be the only decent goal attempts from both teams in the first half that also saw in-form striker Andre Silva wasted a glorious chance to put his side ahead after being released in the area by Filip Kostic. The Portuguese striker could only fire a tame shot at Kobel to keep the scores level as both teams went for the break.

Ten minutes after the restart, the hosts were ahead through Filip Kostic, but referee Robert Schroder through a VAR intervention chalked-off the goal due to an offside in the build-up.

With the hosts unable to break the deadlock despite having much of the ball and producing clear cut chances, the visitors gathered a few passes to strike the first blow in what was their first reasonable attempt at goal.

The goal came in the 68th minute through Sasa Kalajdzic whose precise left-foot finish from the centre of goal was enough to beat Kevin Trapp and hand his side a lead against the run of play.

But the hosts replied immediately through a brilliant Filip Kostic goal in the 69th minute. The hosts continued to press after the equaliser but were unable to beat Gregor Kobel despite Luka Jovic’s best effort.
