The Norwegian striker is ready to make his next step, says Matthaus.
Former German footballer Lothar Matthaus has said that Erling Haaland is ready to move on from Borussia Dortmund in search of the next step of his career.
Haaland has been subject to transfer interest from Europe’s elite clubs after being revealed that his reported release clause worth 65m pounds would come into existence in 2022. There are higher possibilities Die Borussen could be forced to sell the Norwegian striker before that.
The 20-year-old has a large number of suitors from Manchester City to Real Madrid owing to his rich vein of form. He has become one of the hottest strikers in Europe if not the best after consistently finding the nets for Dortmund.
Former Bayern Munich star Matthaus said,
This positivity that he radiates, radiates on the team which is why I think that someday, Haaland will not be playing at Dortmund anymore and will make the next step.
He is already ready and we are proud to have him in the Bundesliga.
‘Dortmund need to be pleased to have gotten him because he is a striker that fits to a club with such emotions.’
Matthaus also added that Haaland is similar to what Robert Lewandowski is for Bayern Munich.
Erling Haaland is regarded at Dortmund like Robert Lewandowski is at Bayern: the player upfront who is not only responsible for the goals but in charge of dragging the team with him. He is a leader at the age of 20.
The former Salzburg star is currently sidelined due to muscle fibre injury and his absence has already reflected in Dortmund’s poor run of form over the past few weeks.
