Gary Neville reveals Lampard’s role in Andre Villas-Boas’ Chelsea sacking

Chelsea and Tottenham are in race for Lamare Bogarde

Frank Lampard was sacked by Chelsea last month.

The former Blues midfielder failed to get the best out of his players and Chelsea made a mediocre start to the Premier League season.

According to reports, Frank Lampard was one of the players involved in the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas when the Portuguese was in charge of Chelsea.

Apparently, the midfielder was a part of the group that called the media to initiate the sacking of the former Chelsea manager.

Popular pundit Gary Neville has claimed that Lampard should not be shocked with his fate at Chelsea because of his involvement in the Villas-Boas saga and the fact that he is fully aware of how Chelsea are ruthless with their managers.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, he said: “I think because of the rumours that came out of Stamford Bridge and the media before, it wasn’t really a shock. I thought initially he would get more time, just to let them settle in but you can’t be surprised by Chelsea.

“I go back Martin to in Napoli eight or nine years ago, when Villas-Boas had picked a team in the afternoon of a Champions League game. And he left out Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and another big player at that time.

“And I remember Chelsea players at that time ringing up members of the media and trying to get him out. And Frank was part of that group.

“And it has been really a brutal football club for managers for many many years, and Frank has suffered that brutality last week, so he should be the least of all surprised because he has been at the club when Villas-Boas was sacked, Scolari, and all the rest of them have come and gone.”

Gary Neville: “Seeing Thomas Tuchel come into the Premier League is a welcome addition, not at the expense of Frank Lampard, but we want to see great coaches because it really does lift the game in this country.”
Frank Lampard may have sanctioned a £250million spending spree last summer, but Harry Redknapp believes the former boss was only ever sold on one player – Ben Chilwell. Lampard oversaw a squad overhaul at Stamford Bridge last summer, bringing in a host of new players.
