SC Freiburg

Freiburg will look to recover their flailing season when they host Leverkusen this Sunday.

The Black Forest club followed up their disappointing 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim last weekend with a frustrating 9-0 draw with Union Berlin on Tuesday. The win was not enough to push them outside of their position though as they enter this round sitting in fifth, but just a point off Hoffenheim in fourth and two behind opponents Leverkusen.

Their current position is the club’s best position at this stage of a season in 11 years and the best under Christian Streich, who celebrates a decade at the helm at the end of December.

However, the hosts are currently in the midst of their biggest dip in form so far in the 2021/22 season, having lost four of their last six league outings. They will be desperate to avoid this slump and keep themselves within the top five before they leave for the winter break.

Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen will look to keep their Champions League dream for next season alive, when they travel to Freiburg this Sunday.

The visitors come into this game on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw with Hoffenheim. The result followed a recent 5-2 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite taking two-goal leads in both games, Gerardo Seoane’s side ended up dropping points, leaving their chances of a top-three finish in jeopardy.

However, despite those recent slip-ups, this remains Leverkusen’s second-best start to any of their last eight Bundesliga campaigns.

They currently sit third in the league and will look to win this game and keep their place in the top three ahead of Bundesliga’s winter break.
