Atletico Madrid have produced a stunning 2-1 comeback win against Osasuna, with Luis Suarez coming up with a late winner. Los Rojiblancos dealt a blow after Ante Budimir put Osasuna ahead in the 75th minute. However, minutes later, Renan Lodi equalised for Atletico before Suarez scoring a dramatic winner in the 88th minute to collect three crucial points. Here are the three talking points from the thrilling encounter.

Luis Suarez steps up to the occasion

Luis Suarez is turning out to be a revelation this season, and yes, once again. He started the season brilliantly, and is instrumental to provide Atletico the huge lead over the competitors in the middle of the season. After 19 games, Atletico Madrid accumulated fifty points and were way ahead of their competition.

He couldn’t maintain his consistency and so did his team, Atletico Madrid during the later half. But today, he stepped up, when Atletico Madrid needed a goal the most. Today’s strike marked his 20th in La Liga this season – only Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, and Gerard Moreno are ahead in the list – but most importantly, the strike has handed three crucial points for Atletico and just a win away to lift the title. This could turn out to be the most important goal of the season.

We had plenty of chances, and we controlled the goal. Budimir scored but the team responded. Luis’s goal is incredible, he’s always there, there’s nobody better than him to score a winner like the goal today. The changes worked for us, Lodi, Joao… they give us some fresh legs. We brought Kondogbia in to give us some more strength in the middle, Luis had done his work at that stage. We’re just focused now on recovering well and preparing for Valladolid next weekend.

Diego Simeone

We didn’t deserve to suffer so much. We were very good in the first half but to win a league you have to suffer. Everyone is in this battle together. Strikers have to live in these types of situations. It’s easy to let your head drop at times but you have to keep going and I’m proud of that. The league is in our hands now and we’ve the most important game of the season coming up, one that we have to win.

Luis Suarez

Yannick Carrasco continues to be impressive

Carrasco returned to Atletico last year after his two-year spell at Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional. Initially signed on a loan deal, he later completed his switch permanently, and the decision could have left many surprised. Now, the Belgian is turning out to be one of the pivotal players for Atletico in their bid for the La Liga title. Carrasco has contributed to 9 goals ( 4 G + 5 A) in the last 8 games, including today’s assist to Suarez’s decisive goal.

A win against Valladolid will crown Atletico as the champions

Every Atletico Madrid fan must have had the head in their mouth when their side went a goal down in the final quarter. Simultaneously, Real Madrid had taken the lead against Athletic Club. However, Diego Simeone’s men pulled off an incredible comeback to keep their title hopes alive, and if they secure another three points against Valladolid next week, Atletico will be the new La Liga champions.
