Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix has been linked with a move away from the Spanish club, and it appears that Premier League giants Liverpool are closing in on his signing period.

The 22-year-old Portuguese international has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth for La Liga champions this season. There have been reports that he has fallen out with the manager Diego Simeone.

Atletico Madrid paid £113 million for his services back in 2019, but they are willing to let him leave for a fee of around £63 million. The Reds are closing in on the player as reports via FourFourTwo. 

Felix is yet to reach his peak, and a move away from Atletico Madrid could help him regain his sharpness and confidence.

Furthermore, the opportunity to work with a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp could accelerate his development.

It is no secret that Liverpool will have to add more depth and quality to their front three, and Felix is versatile enough to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s squad. He could be the ideal long term replacement for the likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

As for Atletico Madrid, they will be able to invest the proceeds from his sale and bring in a player who is much more suited to Simeone’s style of football.

João Félix is an example of a player who would be viewed of completely differently, in a positive way, had he chosen to go to a possession-based team. His profile just isn't suited to Atlético — never was and never will be.

Atletico Madrid keen on a swap deal for Anthony Martial

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are thought to be keen on signing Anthony Martial during the January transfer window, and they are considering a swap deal with Manchester United.

According to a report via MEN, the Spanish club are set to make an inquiry regarding the Frenchman towards the end of the month.

Martial has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and he needs to leave to play regular first-team football.

Atletico Madrid could use another striker, and the Frenchman could be a useful option for them if he manages to regain his form and sharpness.

The Spanish outfit are prepared to offer Manchester United some of their players in exchange, and it will be interesting to see if the two parties can agree in the coming weeks.
