Atletico Madrid 2-2 Celta Vigo: Atletico held for a draw, despite Suarez brace

Luis Suarez-Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid increased their lead at the top of the Spanish League table to eight points with a 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo earlier tonight.

Diego Simeone would have expected all three points for his side and he will be demanding a better performance in the coming weeks.

The home side had six players missing due to coronavirus infection and that had a negative impact on their performance today. The likes of Joao Felix were absent and Atletico could have really used his attacking quality in the final third today.

Celta Vigo took the lead 13 minutes into the game through Santi Mina but the League’s top scorer Luis Suarez stepped up to score the equaliser at the stroke of half time.

The Uruguayan was at it again in the second half and he put Atletico Madrid ahead on the 50th minute.

The former Barcelona striker has now scored seven goals in his last four League games.

Suarez continues to prove what a major mistake Barcelona made when they decided to let him leave at the start of the season. The Catalans could have surely used his clinical presence upfront in the title race this year.

Celta Vigo struggled to match up to the home side in the second half in terms of performance but debutant Facundo Ferreyra scored on the 89th minute to give his side a vital away point.

Atletico Madrid will feel that they could have picked up all three points if not for the coronavirus crisis.
