The Spanish striker will reportedly join Atletico after the Olympics.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly closing in on the signing of Wolves striker Rafa Mir.

According to reports, Los Rojiblancos have agreed to sign the Wolves striker in a four-year deal worth £12.7m.

Mir had been deprived of game time at the Molineux outfit before he found his feet at Huesca last year on loan.

The 24-year-old mustered a total of 22 goals in his one-and-a-half year loan spell at Huesca, playing a pivotal role behind their promotion to La Liga.

Mir’s impressive form soon caught the eyes of top clubs. However, it was Atletico who managed to win the race for his signing.

Mir is currently with the Spanish national team for the Tokyo Olympics. He is also making his presence felt, thereby scoring a hat-trick in the semi-finals against Ivory Coast.

The report also adds that Atletico could announce Mir’s signing after the Olympics.

The Spaniard will be the La Liga champions’ second signing after Rodrigo de Paul, who recently moved from Udinese.

Mir is expected to be the understudy for Luis Suarez for the upcoming season; however, he can see a bright future at Wanda Metropolitano. The Uruguayan is in the twilight of his career.

As far as Diego Simeone’s side is concerned, Mir’s signing would bolster their attacking unit ahead of an exciting 2021/22 season where they will defend the La Liga crown and aim to push for the Champions League.
