Barcelona’s move to sign Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has hit a snag because of Chelsea‘s desire to recoup the £7million they paid for their captain.

The Spanish La Liga club are desperate to sign the Spain international and have already offered him a lucrative two-year contract, but they are struggling to pay a fee.

Barca do not value him as much as the Blues do, given that he has just one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly held face-to-face talks last week with Barca president Joan Laporta as they went over several prospective deals. The Catalan side have already offered contracts to Azpilicueta and his counterpart Marcos Alonso in the hope that Chelsea would be allowed to leave free of charge or for little fees.

But the Premier League side see no need to give assets away, especially as high fees are being demanded for their own targets.

Chelsea bought Azpilicueta for £7m from Marseille in 2012 and are desperate to get that same figure for the player who has won every major trophy with the club.

Meanwhile, the Blues will need a replacement fullback, and according to Sportsmail, they had asked about Barcelona’s Sergino Dest as part of the talks last week. However, discussions are yet to advance.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are leading the race to sign Leeds United winger Raphinha. The La Liga giants are set to land the playmaker in a deal worth an overall figure of £63m.
