Chelsea Update: Kepa’s future, Lampard’s clash with the board regarding Delcan Rice

Frank Lampard-Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hinted that Kepa Arrizabalaga could be on his way out of the club soon.

The Spaniard has not played for Chelsea since the game against Southampton in October and he has been replaced as the club’s first choice shot-stopper by Edouard Mendy.

According to reports, the player has been linked with a return to Spain and Sevilla are thought to be keen on signing him.

Chelsea signed the player in 2018 for a fee of around 71 million pounds and the Spaniard is the world’s most expensive keeper.

However, he has failed to live up to the expectations and he has been involved in some high profile errors under Frank Lampard.

Speaking to the media ahead of the FA Cup tie against Morecambe, Lampard revealed that Kepa is a Chelsea player for now and it will be interesting to see how the January transfer window unfolds.

He said: “Well at the moment he’s our player and I think the situation is clear, Edou’s (Edouard Mendy) come in, he’s been playing regularly as the number one for us.

“When Kepa came in for the Champions League game he did well, and he’s trained really well. His attitude around the place has been brilliant.

“So I won’t be drawn on that one at the moment, he’s our player, we’ll see how January goes. But I don’t want to be alluding to what might or might not be.”

Meanwhile, Frank Lampard is thought to be at odds with the Chelsea board regarding the signing of Declan rice.

The Chelsea manager rates the West Ham United midfielder highly and he wants to sign the England international.

However, the Chelsea hierarchy have reservations about the midfielder they released when he was 14 years old.

Rice has developed into a quality Premier League footballer and he could prove to be a superb addition to the Chelsea midfield.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are willing to back Frank Lampard in his pursuit of Declan Rice at the end of this season.
