The French winger’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022.

Barcelona have submitted their first renewal offer for Ousmane Dembele, whose contract expires next summer.

There were rumours regarding Juventus’ interest in the Frenchman. However, a fresh knee injury he suffered in Euros has possibly ruled out his departure from the Nou Camp this summer.

Barca, keen on letting Dembele leave for free next year, have now presented a new deal, though only on reduced terms.

The former Dortmund winger joined the Catalans in a mega-money deal worth 135m euros in 2017 and is currently one of the highest earners of the Blaugrana.

However, he failed to exceed his expectations in La Liga with recurring injury concerns, and his transfer has been considered by many as a colossal failure.

Now, Blaugrana have decided to reduce Dembele’s salary due to the severe financial crisis.

Dembele’s wage will rise to more than 20m euros in the final year of his contract as per his current deal, but Barca are willing to offer only 50% of that.

It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman will accept the proposed salary and stay put at the Nou Camp.

Dembele out for four months due to knee surgery

It looked like Dembele had been slowly regaining his form at Barca after constantly appearing for Ronald Koeman’s starting 11 last season. He also managed to convince France manager Didier Deschamps to earn a call-up for the Euros.

However, the Blaugrana suffered an ankle injury during the group stage game against Hungary and was forced to leave the national team at once.

It has been revealed that Dembele will be out of action for four months after undergoing an ankle injury. It will be an arduous task for him to gain full fitness and return to the starting lineup for next season.
