Barcelona Transfer: Catalan giants keen on Matthijs De Ligt, Jordi Mestre on Messi’ future

Matthijs-De-Ligt-Juventus

Matthijs De Ligt pursuit

Barcelona are looking to strengthen their defensive unit in the summer, and they have identified the Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt as a potential target.

The former Ajax defender is one of the best young players around Europe right now, and he could prove to be a sensational long term signing for the Catalan giants.

It will be interesting to see if his international teammate and former club teammate Frenkie de Jong can help convince de Ligt to move to Camp Nou in the summer.

The Spanish outfit have been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Eric Garcia as well, and it seems that they are aiming for a summer overhaul at the back.

Gerard Pique is in the Twilight of his career, and Samuel Umtiti has struggled to prove his reliability for Barcelona.

It makes sense for them to invest in more than one centre back, and it will be interesting to see if they can convince Juventus to part with their prized asset.

Lionel Messi future

Meanwhile, former club row vice president Jordi Mestre has claimed that Lionel Messi will continue at Barcelona beyond this season.

The Argentine superstar will be a free agent at the end of this season, and he has been linked with a move to PSG and Manchester City.

Mestre believes, but Messi’s contract extension is a formality, and he will continue at the Spanish club.

“Messi will continue. If he leaves, it won’t be for money,” he said.

PSG have prepared an "unbeatable" summer offer for Lionel Messi, claims TNT Sports. Two years with an option for a third season
