Bartomeu steps down as Barcelona look to reshape the club hierarchy

Josep Bartomeu-Barcelona

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has decided to resign from his post and the entire board will be stepping down as well.

Bartomeu has been heavily criticised over the last few months because of the way he has run the club and he was expected to depart anyway.

It will be interesting to see how Barcelona reshape the club hierarchy now.

Ever since the Spanish club’s elimination From the Champions League against Bayern Munich, Josep Bartomeu has been under a lot of pressure.

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi was frustrated with the Barcelona president as well and he wanted to leave the club during the summer transfer window.

The relentless criticism of the club president forced the club’s members to call for a vote of no confidence in order to get rid of Bartomeu immediately.

According to reports a total of 20687 votes were cast for the motion against Josep Bartomeu.

However, the vote will no longer be needed in the coming weeks because the club president has decided to step down along with the board.

The Spanish club are in desperate need of a rebuild and it is important that they get the right appointments going forward.

It will be interesting to see how this decision affects the futures of Ronald Koeman and the players. Messi had issues with Bartomeu and his exit could convince the Argentine to commit his long term future to the Spanish club.

Similarly, a new president might want to bring his own manager and Koeman could be on his way out soon. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds in the coming months.
