Getafe

After sealing their place in La Liga last season last by the thinnest of margins, Getafe will return to the league this Monday looking to start better than they did last term.

The hosts finished the season with 39 points, just one ahead of Granada who finished in 18th place. They also recorded the least number of goals of the 17 teams that survived relegation (33 goals) but made up for their lack of goals with a resilient defence that shipped in only 41 goals last season–the fifth-best defence in La Liga last year.

Coming into this tie, they will be desperate to hit the ground running and start fast. But their poor form in the preseason does not inspire in the hearts of the most optimistic of fans. Quique Sánchez Flores’ side played six preseason friendlies and won only once–which was in their first preseason game.

Their last game was a 1-0 loss to lowly Albacete, a game they failed to score in, taking their scoring drought to their last three games. But as is often the case, preseason form does not always translate to league form. And so, Flores will be hoping his side can produce a better performance and end their 21-game winless run against Atletico Madrid.

Possible Getafe starting line-up

David Soria; Damian Suarez, Djene Dakonam, Domingos Duarte, Febricio Angileri; Portu, Nemanja Maksimovic, Mauro Arambarri, Jaime Seoane; Borja Mayoral, Enes Unai.

Atletico Madrid

For Atletico, this will be about continuing what they have already begun in pre-season.

The visitors have been impeccable in their friendlies, winning all four games, while conceding just once. They scored four times in three of those games, including against Juventus, and kept three clean sheets; including against Manchester United.

And so, if pre-season form is anything to go by, Diego Simeone will feel that his team is very ready to begin the season. The Argentine is heading into a club-record 12th season in charge and will be desperate for his side to be in the title reckoning come the end of the season. And so, a positive start will be crucial for him and his team this Monday.

Should they win this game, it will take their unbeaten run in La Liga to five games after they ended last season with three wins and one draw in their last four games.

Possible Atletico Madrid starting line-up

Ivo Grbic; Stefan Savic, Mario Hermoso, Reinaldo Mandava; Koke, Rodrigo De Paul, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Daniel Wass, Marcos Llorente; Joao Felix, Angel Correa.

Injured: Jose Gimenez, Jan Oblak, Renan Lodi, Yannick Carrasco, Felipe Monteiro

Doubtful: None
