United to trigger debt clause in Lukaku deal

Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in 2019 for a fee of around €80 million.

Apparently, the Italian club chose to pay in instalments and they have now missed a payment deadline to the Premier League side.

According to a clause in the striker’s contract, Manchester United are owed €50m immediately and the Premier League side have now triggered the option.

The Italian club are going through a financial crisis right now and it will be interesting to see if they can pay off the debt to Manchester United as soon as possible.

One option for the Italian club would be to offer the Premier League side some of their players in exchange for the money.

Apparently Manchester United are keen on Milan Skriniar and Lautaro Martinez. Both players are apparently admired by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and it will be interesting to see if the two clubs can work out a solution that benefits them both.

Paul Pogba U-turn

Meanwhile, French international Paul Pogba is now open to staying at Manchester United after making a transfer U-turn.

The midfielder has just over 12 months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford and he was linked with an exit at the end of this season.

According to reports, the player is now open to ending the speculation about his Manchester United future and is willing to discuss a new contract with the club.

Pogba is a world-class player on his day and the fans will be delighted if Manchester United managed to keep him beyond his current deal.

United will need players of his calibre if they want to challenge the likes of Manchester City in the coming seasons for the Premier League title.
