Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho has been offered the iconic number 10 shirt following the departure of Lionel Messi.

According to reports, the Brazilian midfielder is currently not assigned a squad number at Camp Nou and the number 10 shirt is the only number that is still available in the first-team squad.

The midfielder wore the number 14 shirt for Barcelona last season but it has been handed to youth player Rey Manaj.

Coutinho has had a torrid time at Barcelona since his move from Liverpool and the Spanish outfit are thought to be keen on offloading him this summer.

However, there has been a shortage of takers and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Brazilian international ended up staying at Barcelona for another season.

In that case, it could be the final chance for the former Liverpool midfielder to prove his worth in La Liga.

There is no doubt that Coutinho is a top-class player on his day but he has struggled with the lack of confidence and injury problems since moving to Spain.

The midfielder will require a regular run in the side to regain his confidence and form.

It will be interesting to see if Ronald Koeman is prepared to give him the opportunities to regain his sharpness in the coming weeks.

The player has recently returned to training after a long term injury and he will need games under his belt to build up his match fitness.
