Real Madrid are set to appoint Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti as their coach next season.

According to reports from Marca and several outlets, the Italian is closing in on a return to Santiago Bernabeu, and his appointment could be confirmed later today.

Ancelotti helped the Spanish club win the coveted La Decima during his time at the club, and it will be interesting to see if he can rebuild them into a competitive site that is capable of winning the major trophies once again.

Real Madrid failed to win a single trophy this past season, and it has been a disappointing campaign for them.

Manager Zinedine Zidane decided to walk out of his job at the end of the season following disagreements with the club hierarchy, and Florentino Perez has decided to bring Ancelotti back to the club in order to add some stability.

The Italian manager knows the club well, and he has a bond with the fans. Furthermore, he has worked with several of the current members of the playing squad, and he could get them firing immediately.

It will be interesting to see how Everton react to this situation now. The Toffees have backed the Italian considerably in the transfer market, and they were hoping to build a winning project with him at the helm.

The Premier League side will struggle to bring in a replacement that is as good as Ancelotti now, and it could have a damaging effect on their plans next season.
