Henrikh Mkhitaryan hits a brace to secure a comprehensive win for Roma.

Roma have picked up a comprehensive 3-0 win against Parma, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan scoring a double.

Borja Mayoral gave the hosts the lead in the 28th minute after getting brilliantly set up by Leanardo Spinazolla. Henrikh Mkhitaryan doubled the lead minutes later with a thunderous strike and soon followed up with another goal to make it 3-0 before the half time.

The second half saw no goals from both the sides although Roma had a couple of good opportunities. Mkhitaryan could have completed his hat-trick but his shot was saved by Luigi Sepe.

Mkhitaryan has been in blistering form of late as he has come up with a double following a hat-trick against Genoa before the international break. The Armenian international has so far racked up 6 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this season. Mayoral is slowly gelling into the squad as the Spaniard striker had scored three goals in this month alone for the Italian capital club.

Roma have been impressive under Paulo Fonseca in Serie A this season despite their only defeat against Hellas Verona. The win against Parma has also put Giallorossi second in the table, with Sassuolo being the current leaders with 18 points.

Fonseca also offered his thoughts on the impressive win while singling out the praise for Mkhitaryan.

“We put in an excellent performance, especially in the first half, as we scored three goals and could’ve had quite a few more.”

“I think the team played well, in the second half we controlled the situation and still created more chances to find the net. I always said Mkhitaryan is a great professional who can do well in various different roles, so I am not surprised by what he’s doing.”
