Real Madrid clinched their 34th La Liga title with a 2-1 win over Villarreal earlier.

Zinedine Zidane has now won his second title as the manager of Los Blancos. When he took over earlier in the season, Real Madrid were struggling and nobody would have expected them to end the season as champions.

However, they improved rapidly under Zidane and they have been rightfully crowned as the Champions now.

Karim Benzema scored both goals for Real Madrid as they picked up a 2-1 win. Vicente Iborra added a late consolation for the visitors on the 83rd minute but Real Madrid held on for the three points.

They are now seven points clear at the top of the table with one game to go.

Real Madrid will be delighted with their turnaround this season and it will be interesting to see if they can make a mark in the Champions League now.

They are still in the competition but Manchester City have an advantage heading into the second leg. Los Blancos will have to produce a special performance to get into the quarter finals of the competitions.

Club captain Sergio Ramos has hailed Zidane’s management this season.

He said: “Zidane has been key. He’s the captain of the ship and he led us right from the start of the season. He put a lot of faith in all of us players and we have always felt protected with Zizu. He believed in us, we’ve all believed in the work we have done and let’s hope that it’s valued properly. He’s a unique coach. It’s been a strange season, but our objective was very clear once the league restarted: we wanted to win every game. There were no doubts in our minds and we have shown that on the pitch. It’s difficult to win every game – you can’t win these matches easily, every rival is difficult – but this is the reward for all our hard work and I’m very happy with my fifth title.”
