Manchester United interested in RB Leipzig centre-back

The Red Devils are keeping tabs on the highly-rated defender.

Manchester United are said to be active in the transfer race for Dayot Upamecano, who is rated as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe.

According to reports, Manchester United are still interested in signing RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano, whose contract runs until 2023.

However, United are forced to offload several fringe figures, say Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, who are proving to be stumbling blocks in making way for new signings.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently in the lookout for a new centre-back, but United are severely hit by financial woes.

The Red Devils have already stalled their talks with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho due to the German club’s expensive valuation.

Having said that, it remains to be seen whether United can still pull off transfers in the transfer window whilst Donny van de Beek being their only acquisition so far.

Meanwhile, Upamecano is also on the radar of La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid, who are plotting to sign him next summer. Madrid believe they can sign the French centre-back before he enters the final year of his contract.

The Leipzig defender had a stellar campaign last term, which culminated in his debut with the national team in UEFA Nations League.

Man Utd lost their opening game in the Premier League against Crystal Palace, and their shaky defence left a lot to be desired. The defeat also showed that United need to fix their defensive issues, and the best solution is to sign a new centre-back.
