Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has now questioned the club’s transfer policy of investing in youth instead of buying players who are ready to make an impact right now.

Tottenham signed the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur during the January transfer window but the Italian manager claims that his squad has been weakened despite the new signings.

Conte has highlighted that Tottenham have a policy of bringing in talented players and nurturing them into stars instead of bringing in individuals who can make an immediate impact and help the club challenge for the major trophies.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to change their transfer strategy during the summer transfer window.

A manager like Antonio Conte will want a competitive squad at his disposal and he is used to challenging for the major trophies every season.

If Tottenham fail to live up to the expectations, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Italian walk away in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the Tottenham manager has also admitted that it is nearly impossible for the club to finish in the top four because they are competing against top teams and in order to overtake them, Tottenham will need players with a lot of experience.

Conte said: “Four players left in January. Four important players for Tottenham, two have arrived. So even numerically instead of strengthening yourself you may have, on paper, weakened.

“Bentancur and Kulusevski are the ideal prospects for Tottenham. Because Tottenham is looking for young players, players to be developed, not ready players.”

He added: “The vision, the philosophy of the club is this. It is inevitable that if you want to grow faster and if you want to be competitive faster you need players with a lot of experience because then they lead to increase the experience also in your team.

“But then again, the vision of the club I understand is this.”
