Arsenal 1-1 Southampton: Auba, Saka combine to avoid fifth consecutive defeat at Emirates

Bukayo Saka-Arsenal

Arsenal managed to grind out a 1-1 draw against Southampton at home earlier tonight.

The away side will be disappointed to have dropped two points here especially against a ten-man Arsenal team.

Theo Walcott gave Southampton their lead on the 18th minute but Arsenal came back into the game early on in the second half through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was sent off for picking up two yellow cards and Mikel Arteta will be thoroughly disappointed to have played the final half an hour of the game with a man down.

Arsenal have been quite indisciplined this season and they went down to ten men against Burnley earlier this month as well.

Despite their disadvantage Arsenal almost snatched all three points away from Southampton when Rob Holding headed against the woodwork late on in the game.

The draw takes Southampton up to third in the Premier League table with 24 points and Arsenal are now 15th with just 14 points.

Arsenal will be expected to qualify for European football this season and they will have to improve a lot in order to do so.

It will be interesting to see how the Gunners perform in the coming weeks and whether they can improve considerably.

It has been a disastrous start for Arsenal so far and Arteta will be under tremendous pressure to turn it around for his side.
