Villans are set to sign Norwich City midfielder Emi Buendia.

Aston Villa have edged out Arsenal in the transfer race for Norwich City midfielder Emi Buendia.

It has been reported in recent weeks that the Gunners were in the pole position to secure the transfer of the Argentine playmaker.

According to a new report, the Canaries have accepted Aston Villa’s £ 30m offer for Buendia while the Gunners’ initial bid was turned down.

The report also adds that the total fee could rise to £ 40m, including bonuses, which will make the 24-year-old Villa’s most expensive transfer, surpassing last summer’s acquisition Ollie Watkins.

Buendia enjoyed a stellar campaign in the 20/21 season, which saw him win the EFL Championship player of the year, and he also helped the Canaries secure promotion to the Premier League. He also racked an eye-catching number of 15 goals and 16 assists in the process.

Buendia’s productive season has also helped him earn a call-up to the Argentina national team for the World Cup Qualifiers, and he has a great chance to retain his place for Copa America as well.

Villa showed ambitions in the transfer market over the last two seasons ever since they secured promotion to the top-flight, and now they are raising the bars once again as they look to compete for the top-four race next term.

The Lions are already packed with talented players, and Buendia’s addition would further strengthen their squad. With his addition, Villa will now have two quality attacking midfielders at their disposal – the other being Jack Grealish.
