Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham: Teams share the spoils in an evenly-fought London derby

Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League earlier today.

Both teams were quite equally matched over the ninety minutes and a draw is probably a fair result in the end.

Chelsea nearly opened the scoring ten minutes into the game when Timo Werner scored a fantastic goal after being sent through by Mason Mount. However, the German international’s strike was ruled out due to offside.

Tottenham had the chance to take the lead immediately after but Edouard Mendy denied Serge Aurier with a quality save at the other end of the pitch.

Neither side really managed to clear create any clear cut chances. However, Chelsea could have stolen the three points on another day.

Mason Mount was denied by Hugo Lloris ten minutes from time when his dipping effort from outside the box was saved by the Frenchman. Olivier Giroud also had a half-chance after coming on towards the end of the game.

Today’s draw leaves Tottenham at the top of the table with 21 points from 10 matches. Defending champions Liverpool have the same number of points as well but the London club are ahead on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are third in the Premier League table and they will be hoping to close the gap with Tottenham with a win in their next game against Leeds United.

Tottenham will take on Arsenal in another London derby next week and it will be interesting to see if they can extend their lead at the top of the table with a win.
