Chelsea are close to signing Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid on a loan deal.

According to reports, the Blues are paying a loan fee of around €4 million for the midfielder and they will have the option to sign him permanently next summer for a fee of around €35 million.

Apparently, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have finalized an agreement and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can get the transfer across the line before the transfer window closes.

The 26-year-old Spaniard could prove to be an excellent addition to the Chelsea midfield and he will give Thomas Tuchel some much-needed depth and tactical versatility.

Saul can operate as a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder as well as a wide player. Furthermore, he can play as a defender as well.

The 26-year-old could prove to be a very useful option during rotation and injuries and it will be interesting to see if he can force his way into the first team line up ahead of the likes of Kovacic.

The Blues were linked with the player earlier this month and the fans will be delighted to see that the transfer is close to completion.

The midfielder is not a key player for Diego Simeone anymore and a move away from Atletico Madrid is the ideal situation for him.

It remains to be seen whether he can impress Chelsea with his performances in the Premier League this season.

The Blues will be hoping to win the Premier League title this season and they need a deeper squad to compete on all fronts.

The signings of Romelu Lukaku and Saul should prove to be smart transfers and it remains to be seen whether Tuchel can guide them to domestic glory this year.
