Chelsea are considering signing a new midfielder this summer and Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez has caught their attention.

According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish international is considered as a possibility but the talks are not advanced yet.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from La Liga this summer and other Premier League clubs were linked with him in recent months.

Saul dropped down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid last season and he was a squad player for them.

It is evident that he is not a key member of Diego Simeone’s first-team plans anymore and he needs to leave the Spanish champions in order to play more often.

Chelsea could definitely use more depth in the central midfield and the 26-year-old Spaniard seems like an ideal fit.

Saul works hard defensively and he would chip in with creativity and goals as well.

Meanwhile, Romano claims that Chelsea are still working on a deal to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla this summer.

The Blues are keen on improving their defensive options and the Frenchman has been identified as a target.

Kounde was one of the best defenders in the Spanish league last season and it is no surprise that the top Premier League clubs are keen on him.

Thiago Silva is in his twilight years and the Blues will need to replace him in the long term. Kounde could prove to be a sensational bit of business for Chelsea.

The Frenchman has all the tools to develop into a world-class player. Furthermore, the centre back can slot in as a full-back as well and his versatility will give Thomas Tuchel more options to work with.

Apparently, the Blues are looking to offload their fringe players first and then they could make a move for the La Liga duo.
